Environmental Footprint at Fort Lauderdale International Airport
PRINT
Westhorp & Associates has worked with The Clean Airport Partnership to quantify and assess Fort Lauderdale Airport's (FLL) current environmental footprint/impact. During this phase, we estimated the volume and broadly defined the types of solid waste generated at FLL, based on the occupancy and use by the airport facilities. Waste produced at FLL is costly to treat and dispose of, and carries an environmental impact due to the use of natural resources required and the consumption of landfill space. Solid and hazardous waste streams are an indication of inefficiency, requiring fee-based transportation and disposal costs. Our recommendations focused on minimizing waste generation through process and design changes and/or aggressive recycling programs that can reduce raw material expense, disposal costs, and environmental impact.
