Westhorp & Associates was selected by Miami-Dade County to provide construction inspection services during the closure of Cell 3 at the South Dade Landfill (SDLF). The SDLF is a Class I municipal solid waste facility which is owned and operated by the County. This nine million dollar construction project consists of multiple elements, including a final cover system which contains both geosynthetic materials and soil layers, landfill gas/leachate extraction wells with air driven pumps, and a drainage system designed to convey stormwater collected on the top and sides of the cell to stormwater swales at the bottom of the landfill while minimizing erosion. WA’s project team coordinated efforts between the County, the contractor and our Construction Quality Assurance sub-consultant to keep the project running smoothly.
